British boxing historian Miles Templeton had dedicated over fifty years to historical boxing research. He holds comprehensive records for over 75,000 boxers, men who fought professionally in Britain between 1890 and 1980.
Miles has transcribed every result ever published in Britain's trade paper Boxing News (and its forerunner Boxing) along with many extra results sourced from over 600 provincial newspapers and scarce sporting publications including The Mirror of Life; Boxing World and Sporting Life. He has created a digital archive of his records, meticulously indexed to their original source, including a wide range of material that he has found in connection with each boxer (such as souvenir programmes, handbills and images). This unique resource now holds over 500,000 individual items.
Miles is also actively involved in modern professional boxing. He is a director of the British Boxing Board of Control, where he sits as the Northern Area representative, and has long been involved within the Northern Area where he has fulfilled various roles including Chairman and Chief Inspector.
Miles has been the boxing history consultant for a number of TV and radio programmes and documentaries including; The One Show: Who Do You Think You Are; The Heir Hunters; Michael Portillo's Great British Railway Journeys; Father Brown; Antiques Roadshow; Jack Doyle - A Legend Lost: Murder in Soho - Who Killed Freddie Mills. Miles is happy to accept enquiries from any media outlet.
Miles also writes for Boxing News magazine contributing weekly articles for their Yesterday's Heroes column, drawing on his expertise to tell the history of the sport in Britain.
