If you have a boxing ancestor in your family tree and would like to learn more about his career, you’ve come to the right place. Miles has helped
more than 2,000 different families during the last fifteen years, many of whom knew little or nothing about their ancestor’s ring career. With the
popularity of family history at an all-time high, more and more people are using Miles’s services to find out more about their boxing forebears,
and you can too.
Please bear in mind that the material that Miles provides relates solely to the boxing careers of these men and not their family history. For this information you are advised to seek the assistance of family history specialists. For boxing material, however, Miles is the expert
You can search for a boxer in Miles’s exhaustive records list , to see if your ancestor is amongst them.
All historical material is reproduced from high quality digital scans of the original documents. Where it is impossible to scan an item (eg a tightly-bound newspaper or microfilm) I will endeavour to obtain the highest quality reproduction possible.
The amount of information and material available varies from boxer to boxer, but usually Miles can offer:
* A comprehensive fight record showing the details of every contest - view an example.
* Fight reports from original newspapers - view an example.
For many of the boxers there is additional material such as:
* photographs - view an example.
* handbills - view an example.
* souvenir programmes - view an example.
* advertisements - view an example.
For illustrative purposes only. These are examples of what you can do with the material.
Where there is sufficient material (around 20 items) I produce a digital book of all of the material in chronological order, and this is provided along with all of the individual files via Dropbox, Google Drive (or something similar) or on a USB stick which I send through the post. The choice is yours. The pdf digital book is ready for either printing off on a home printer, or I recommend that you use an online printing company to produce a paperback or hardback book. There are many of these companies that offer very economical professional print and publishing services. They are user-friendly and usually very fast. All you need to do is upload the pdf digital book that I provide, and follow their instructions. If you would like to have the digital book printed and would prefer not to do this yourself then I can oversee the production of the book on your behalf. I charge a £20 handling fee for this service in addition to the cost of printing.
If there is not sufficient material to produce a digital book, then I send all of the individual files relating to your ancestor by email. You can then print it off at your leisure.
Miles's research fee is dependant on the quality and quantity of the material available. When the material is sent by email prices range from £10 to £40. Larger collections, which include the digital book typically range from £50 to £100. For very large commissions, where there may be as many as 300 or more items the fee can extend to as much as £150.
Turnaround time from payment to despatch of the digital files is no more than seven days. Where a hardback or paperback book is to be printed on your behalf, then you will need to add a further seven to fourteen days for this.
